As A fashion student, it is important to be aware of few skills or tips on making their own boards. The boards usually included concept, mood, costumer, color and design. In this blog post we will give you some simple tips on making a simple, but aesthetic.
A fashion student from North Jakarta International School created a minimal design boards. The collection called Lichen and I. She made the created the patterns got inspiration from lichens, added an element letter “I” and create 5 outfits. This post is the feedbacks from the student who created these boards.
1. Make it Unified.
It is really important to make all the boards unify. Every single board need to “looks related” to the each other. You need to use same color scheme, patters, feature, font and format. It does not have to look exactly the same but it is always good to use similar element as possible so when you put everything together it makes sense.
2. Use Various Size.
If you decided to use big figure, remember to smaller other elements. It is important to make a board balance. In this case, it is not about symmetrical or not but the overall vibe. When you look at the example you can clearly see how theres a closed-up ver. of model but also a full body ver of her. Also there is a huge rectangle as part of the background but also there are small squares with different color gathering together on the board. This is to make the element balance and as a result you will feel satisfied with the vibe of your boards.
3. Play Around with Composition.
If is important for you to have different interesting composition for every single board. You may use same layout with completely different element inside but that will make your boards look ugly and messy. If you see the example, some of the flat drawings are horizontally arranged but some of them are vertically arranged. It shows the same information but in different composition and it will make your boards more interesting.
4. Find Your Signature Style and Use it.
All of the successful designers got their own signature style. Even though you are just a student, it is important and necessary to have one in order to continue your portfolio. It can be all about color, pattern, certain words or sentences, shape of the clothes, color or the board and many more. It is totally up to you, but you better figure it out as soon as possible.
